The Colorado State Rams head west this weekend, traveling to California for a non-conference matchup against Santa Clara. Friday’s game will mark the second of five consecutive road games for CSU before returning to Fort Collins for their home opener March 6 against Boston College.
On the Road
Colorado State will look to bounce back after a 15-7 scrimmage loss to Colorado College Feb. 7. The Rams were able to keep a steady pace early on in the game before the Tigers pulled away and caused an eight-goal lead in the second half. Now, CSU looks to sharpen up heading into a matchup that was decided by just one goal last season.
Last year, the Rams defeated the Broncos 14-13 after trailing at halftime. The team scored six goals in the second half, resulting in a win during the tightly contested matchup.
Players to Watch
Offensive Midfielder, Senior Captain Mason Daly: Daly led the Rams offensively against Colorado College, scoring back-to-back goals in the third quarter. Daly’s ability to take a play from the faceoff to the goal will be a key factor in generating momentum for CSU during the game.
Defensive Long-Stick-Midfielder, First-Year Kai Skaer: From starting fifth string in the spring to now a first string player, Skaer has already started to make his mark on the field in his first year on the field for the Rams and will be a key presence on defense.
Santa Clara on the Field
In their fourth game of the 2026 campaign Friday night, the Broncos enter the matchup after a 23-5 loss to The University of Oregon Feb. 1 and 23-7 loss to SDSU Feb. 14 before securing a 13-11 win over UCLA Feb. 15. Now they’ll look ahead to take on the Rams at Bellomy Field, giving Santa Clara an early home-field advantage. The Broncos will look to capitalize on the field familiarity, with CSU needing to counter early on.
