The Colorado State Rams head south this weekend to face the University of Texas Longhorns Friday, Feb. 27. Friday’s contest marks the first meeting between the two programs since 2023. CSU leads the all-time series, 6-2.
On the Road
The Rams return to action after splitting their West Coast road trip. CSU opened the weekend by building a five-goal lead within the first five minutes of play. Junior attacker Tanner Marsh led off with an early scoring run as the Rams maintained control throughout. Colorado State secured its first win of the season with a nine-point lead.
The momentum carried into Sunday’s matchup at UC Berkeley, but the Golden Bears claimed a 17-13 win. Cal controlled possession at the faceoff executing a 93.6% faceoff percentage, limiting CSU’s offensive opportunities. Despite the setback, the Rams offense showed flashes of explosiveness, capitalizing quickly when given space, forcing Cal’s defense to scramble.
Players to Watch
Offensive Player: Junior attacker Tanner Marsh, has already made an immediate impact for the Rams, totaling six goals and seven assists across two games in. His ability to distribute the ball and finish a play makes him a central piece of CSU’s offense heading into any matchup.
Defensive Player: First-year defender Johnnie Alegjo, proved versatility on the defensive end. Alejo recorded a goal 30-yards out, showcasing his confidence from across the field.
UT Austin Player: Senior midfielder Jack Eigen leads the Longhorns with 18 points in his first four games, averaging nine shots on goal per contest. Eigen serves as a focal point in the Texas offense, with Ram defenders looking to limit his opportunities.
Texas on the Field
Texas enters Friday looking to snap out of a three-game deficit. After a tight 14-13 loss to Boston College Feb. 13. The Longhorns fell the next weekend to Brigham Young 21-8, Feb 19 before dropping an 18-7 loss against Utah Valley Feb. 21.
