Split Weekend Setback
Colorado State fell 17-13 Sunday to the University of California, Berkeley, splitting their West Coast weekend. After opening the season with a win Friday night, the Rams close their first weekend of competition with a 1-1 record.

CSU jumped ahead early into the game with back-to-back goals from junior attacker Tanner Marsh (#91) at 13:15 and sophomore attacker Jack Rego, (#22) at 11:02. Cal sophomore attacker Finn McHugh (#16) responded with three first-quarter goals, completing his hat trick at 7:46.
Cal junior midfielder Luc Dumont (#5) added a goal at 5:29 before senior midfielder Mason Daly (#18) scored off a cross-field pass by Marsh at 3:32.
End of First Quarter CSU 3 || Cal 4
Cal opened the second quarter with a goal at 14:09 extending their lead. Junior midfielder Adyn Cover (#1) answered with a goal at 13:46, followed a minute later by Cal junior attacker Nate Fredericks (#6).
Dumont scored again at 12:17, followed by Daly at 10:46, completing his hat trick of the game.
Cal added two more goals, once at 6:12 and another at 3:55 building a four-goal lead.
Second Quarter CSU 6 || Cal 10
Opening up the third quarter sophomore midfielder Ryan Menard (#53) scored off a bouncing cross pass at 13:31. Cal sophomore midfielder Seth Jordan (#23) responded at 11:56.
Johnnie Alejo, a first-year defender, sank the ball into the net from 30-yards out at 11:22.
Cal responded with three more goals at 10:42, Jordan with his second goal at 8:28 and another Cal goal at 7:25.
Two late quarter goals scored by Cover at 6:44 and Rego at 3:33 shortened Cal’s lead making it 14-10.
Cal recorded another goal with seven seconds remaining in the quarter.
Third Quarter CSU 10 || Cal 15
CSU made one final push with Menard finding the net at 8:44 followed by sophomore midfielder James Ponicki (#34) just 43 seconds later.
The Rams trailed 15-12 with 6:35 remaining on the clock. Fredericks extended Cal’s lead with a goal at 5:37 and 3:31.
Marsh scored with 43 seconds remaining on the clock.
