The Buffs scored first, but the Rams answered, and the teams traded goals for a 2-2 score after one period. Junior attackman Ryan Ferrin had two goals and an assist in a 5-1 run in the second quarter to put State up 7-3 at half. The game was very fast, and up and down the field in the second half. The Buffs closed to 7-5 early in the third, and 11-9 late in the third, but each time, C.S.U. pulled away. This was an intense game, as always in this great rivalry that goes way beyond lacrosse/sports.
For State, Ferrin had 2G 4A overall, senior captain Brian Linehan had 3G 1A, sophmore attackman Mike Roth had 3 goals. 3 others had 2 goals each. Goalie Ty Wilson had 18 saves in a stellar performance in goal, and although the score might say otherwise, there was some serious defense played in this game, and State’s was anchored by sophmore Pat Coy.
For C.U. that formidable midfield line of Pete Cooke, Andrew Armani, and Jesse Modica had 8 goals and 2 assists as a unit, led by Cooke’s 5 goals and 1 assist. Attackman Noah Kauffman had 3G and 2A.
Next Friday .State will meet the Ft. Lewis Sky Hawks, and C.U. and B.Y.U. will meet in a rematch of the tight, one goal game they played just two weeks ago.
