The Rams and Buffs are annual combatants within the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference and two of the most successful teams in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association over the past decade.
Colorado State comes into the game as the two-time defending MCLA national champion and ranked #4 in the country with a 10-3 overall record and 2-1 mark in conference. Their opponent in last year’s national championship game was none other than Colorado, who this year sports an 11-2 overall record and is 3-0 in conference play.
This year’s Showdown game marks the sixth time in MCLA history that the two teams have met at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium, which is also home to Major League Lacrosse’s Denver Outlaws and the National Football League’s Denver Broncos. Games between the two schools have also been held at Hughes Stadium in Fort Collins, Boulder’s Folsom Field and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park since the formalization of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown in 2004.
Game time is set for 6 p.m., or about an hour after the preceding Colorado high school contest between powerhouses Arapahoe and Cherry Creek at 3 p.m. Kent Denver and Mountain Vista will also face-off at noon in a full day of lacrosse at one of the premiere venues in the country.
Youth and student tickets are available for $10 and adult tickets are $12 online at www.csulacrosse.com. They are also available at the door for $15 on the day of the game.
