The Colorado Buffaloes (8-4) will play host to the Colorado State Rams (10-2) on Saturday afternoon for the 2016 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown. This year’s installment of the game features an interesting match-up of contrasting playing styles with the number one seed in the RMLC Tournament on the line.
The Rams (#6) have found an identity this season as a stout defensive team. They have limited opposing offenses to less than 7 goals a game. The defense has only allowed an opponent to score in the double digits once this year in the 11-10 OT victory over Grand Canyon in February.
The Buffs (#5) are one of the most prolific offensive teams in the MCLA. Their starting attack and midfield has combined for over 160 points through their first 12 games. The impressive team offense on display has led the Buffs to double-digit scoring in all but one game this season; their 12-9 defeat to Arizona State (#14) earlier this week.
The winner of this game will likely be dictated by which of these powerhouse units can force their will on the other. It will be an electrifying match-up on Saturday afternoon between two top-10 MCLA programs. The weather is expected to get a little nasty, but that won’t be enough to snuff out the competitive nature of either team.
