THE ONLY THING 4 SHORE IS THAT NOTHING IS FOR SURE
If one were to try and process some of the recent results of MCLA games, they might find any kind of logic or pattern difficult to find, let alone put a finger on. Colorado State, Cal Poly, BYU, Chapman, and UCSB have all played close games amongst themselves this season, beating each other here and there, leaving the championship keys to the city of Greenville, South Carolina completely up for grabs. C.U., who we play in two weeks at Mile High, has jumped into the fray now, too. After some early season surprise L’s, the Colorado Buffs have put themselves inside the ring of mayhem, and they punctuated their 2012 resurrection with a fairly convincing 11-9 win over BYU two nights ago in Boulder. This has further meaning for us Rammies as we will play a pissed off bunch of Cougars tonight in Highlands Ranch at Shea Stadium. I don’t think BYU has it in the plan to get on the bus back to Provo with an 0 for 2 aftertaste in their Defending National Champions mouth in the wake of their trip to Colorado. It would be my greatest thrill to give them exactly what they don’t want as a gift to take home on the day that is MY 60th birthday, so it really is all about me…..
Does anyone remember Pauly Shore???? Whatever happened to him.
HEY, #14, GET IN THE BOX!
I have been trying to get this ‘journal entry’ done for many days. I wanted to say lots of things about how well we played against UCSB nine days ago, and how we played a pretty complete game energy-wise for most of the 4 quarters of that game, and the fallout was a fairly sound 11-3 beating of UC Santa Barbara on campus and on a tepid, lovely early spring evening. Phew, that was a long sentence!
I wanted to be thoughtful and spend some time to write, rather than to just be ‘flip’ about things going down. I wanted to have a block of writing time to let my thoughts flow as well as possible, etc., but alas, time has passed, and all of a sudden it is tonight! Well, in a few hours it will be tonight. It didn’t occur to me that parenthood got more intense as ‘they’ got older. Silly me, I must have somehow mistakenly thought that they (my children) all just grow up laughing and loving on their own…….
YOU CAN WIN FOR LOSING
So, the Poly game was a loss, and it was a game that Poly took from us with great resolve, to be sure. But WE all know we lost that game more than anything, because we had control of the game for a long time and for much of it, but, then again, if there is a good loss, and there probably isn’t one of those, that was it, and I don’t need to go into a long explanation of that right now. Suffice to say that most all within earshot unanimously agree to that game being a ‘good’ loss for this Ram team.
GEE, IT’S GOOD TO BE BACK HOME (Paul Simon)
There was a great crowd for the Gaucho game, although not quite as huge as for the Poly game, which was a bit of a Friday night light spectacle atmosphere here two Fridays ago.
PRACTICE?!?! (Allen Iverson)
We have had really productive practices this week. The team ‘mood’ is also excellent. Spirits are high. We talk about goals that are right there, or should I say right here, and not big, hazy ones that have no real immediate, usable elements, or are visions of some ‘distant’ site on the horizon.
DON’T BELIVE EVRYTHING THEY SAY OR WRITE (about you)
No, seriously, don’t think too much about internet buzz, good or bad. Just dew the werk!
GOING DEEP
Hallelujah, it’s baseball season.
The thought of having an angry, hungry Cougar team tonight in Highlands Ranch is exciting to me because we will get the best of BYU. They are the defending. They have fine players, some of them quite large as well. They will dig deeper tonight than they did Thursday night in Boulder.
They like to push the pace. They like to get up and run whenever they can. Great. I think we are pretty good at a few things, and one of them is being able to play the way we want, to have the life of the game unfold at our pace, which, by the way, changes quickly, kind of like the weather in Colorado.
GO HARD
We have everything to prove every time we play. Our key is our depth. My hope is that is also our mindset tonight.
