#1 Colorado State Dismantles #16 Texas 18-6
Colorado State University Men’s Lacrosse

Dallas, TX - The #1 Colorado State Rams jumped out to a 7-1 first quarter lead against the 16th seeded Texas Longhorns and never looked back en route to a convincing 18-6 victory. Colorado State got points from 14 different players in the USL-MDIA first round game and advanced to the quarterfinals on Wednesday. The Rams will play the #8 Arizona Laxcats who defeated #9 Oregon 6-5 on Tuesday.

Colorado State scored the first four goals and quickly put their mark on the game. Sophomore attackman Tyler Treece (Upper Arlington HS; Columbus, OH) led the way with four goals and two assists, including the first two goals of the game. Eight different Rams ended the day with multiple points as Danny Stevens (Suffern HS; Suffern, NY) contributed with two goals and two assists while Michael Murphy (Lake Oswego HS; Lake Oswego, OR) added three assists.

The Longhorns had some success at the face-off 'x', but the Rams finished the day 14 of 27. CSU outshot Texas by a wide margin, firing 57 shots at the Longhorn goal while Texas only mustered 28. Texas goaltender Garrett Cox had a fine day between the pipes, stopping 17 shots, but the CSU offensive unit was simply too much.

Texas was led by midfielder Pat McCloud, who finished with four goals. Other notable efforts from the Rams included Pat Bird (Bishop O'Dowd HS; Oakland, CA), who got two goals and one assist and Ben Wallace (Thomas Jefferson HS; Denver, CO), who had two goals.

Colorado State (15-3) advances to play Arizona, a team they have not faced since the beginning of the 2004 season. CSU owns a 3-0 record over the Laxcats since 2001, but have never faced them in USL-MDIA tournament play.

Game Notes:
- Colorado State has now won five games in the state of Texas. CSU went 4-0 last year during their trip to Arlington.
- CSU led this game 13-3 at halftime and outscored the Longhorns 5-3 in the second for the victory.
- With this win, Colorado State now holds a 3-0 record against Texas, winning games in 2001 and 2005.
