No. 1 Rams Roll over Utah State in Flip Naumburg's 150th Career Victory
Ft. Collins, CO

By Garrett Fitzgerald
April 9, 2005

On a cold and windy evening in Ft. Collins, CO the #1 Colorado State Rams were simply too much for the Utah State Aggies in a RMLC Div A clash Friday night. CSU got scoring from 10 players as the Green and Gold raced out to a 6-1 lead after the first quarter. The Rams extended the lead to 10-1 at halftime en route to an easy 17-1 victory. Danny Stevens (Suffern HS, NY) paced Colorado State with four goals as the Rams had 8 different goal scorers in the winning effort. The win moved head coach Flip Naumburg to 150-28 in his career with Colorado State.

Senior midfielder Tim Farquhar (Collegiate HS, VA) got things moving for CSU less than two minutes into the opening quarter. From there Colorado State scored the next five goals giving them a comfortable lead from the start. Aggie freshman Brian Miller was able to sneak one past Ram goaltender Pete Jokisch (Rockhurst Jesuit, HS) with 4.21 left in the opening period. However, the late goal would be the only tally Utah State could muster on the day.

Freshman Ryan Macdonald (Smokey Hill HS, CO) had a career day for CSU scoring four points with two goals and two assists. Senior captain Nick Stanitz Harper (Eaglecrest HS, CO) also had two goals and two assists. Kyle Rosa (Wheatridge HS, CO) had a significant impact in the midfield for the Rams. The freshman made use of his increased role going 5/6 while facing off for the first time. Several young Colorado State players stepped up and saw extensive field time to gain some valuable experience heading into the playoff stretch.

All three CSU goalies saw action in the game as well. Jokisch played the first half and finished with three saves. Freshmen Adam Taylor (Air Academy HS, CO) and Tyson Ehinger (Heritage HS, CO) split the second half and held the Aggies scoreless. Taylor stopped the only shot he saw while Ehinger ended the day with three saves. Utah State's Dan Gasser put in a very solid effort in net making 18 saves on 35 shots.

Next up for the 13-0 Colorado State Rams is their final game of the regular season. The team travels to Denver for the second annual Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown against instate rival the #6 University of Colorado Buffaloes. Sponsored by the CSU Lacrosse Alumni Association, the game will be once again held at Shea Stadium where last year's match-up drew more than 2,000 spectators.
