Rams Get Second Win of Season as 13 Goal Opening Half Lifts Colorado State Past Texas Tech
Arlington, TX

By Garrett Fitzgerald
February 12, 2005

Colorado State's four game road trip to Arlington, TX continued to be a success as the Rams overwhelmed the Texas Tech Red Raiders 21-7 on Saturday morning. CSU rained shots on the Tech goal and were relentless on both sides of the field as a light drizzle fell from the Texas sky. Just 18 hours after dismantling Auburn, CSU's offensive output continued to impress as 7 different players scored 2 goals or more in a balanced effort that put away a team coming off one of its biggest wins in years. Texas Tech had the upset of the weekend against #13 Texas A&M on Friday night, but could not keep the momentum going against a potent CSU squad.

The Rams offense was impressive and showed it's depth yet again, with three players scoring hat tricks and four more individuals scoring two goals each. For the second day in a row, Freshman Shay Cunningham (Algonquin HS, MA) scored the first goal for Colorado State just 1:53 into the game. Cunningham had a breakout game for the Rams with three goals and four assists bringing his season total to 10 pts, he also scooped up six groundballs in the game.

As if one great performance wasn't enough, two more Rams would get hat tricks for the second time in as many days before the game was over. Tim Farquhar (Collegiate HS, VA) had another fantastic day getting three goals and one assist, also brining his season total to 10 points. Captain Nick Stanitz-Harper (Eaglecrest HS, CO) put in another solid effort scoring three goals with two assists.

In the game 11 different Rams got in on the scoring for Colorado State. The other most notable performances came from four individuals. Tim Chorey (Algonquin HS, MA) had his first multi goal game getting two goals. Freshman Dylan Bowman (Fairview HS, CO) had an excellent outing notching his second and third goals of his young Ram career. Sophomore staring attackmen Danny Stevens (Suffern HS, NY) shot in two of six today with four groundballs.

The Rams starting defense was solid for a second time, and only allowed three goals in the first half. In the second half the second defensive unit took over allowing only ten shots from Texas Tech for the rest of the game. First year defenseman Dylan Preble (Bainbridge HS, WA), looked promising and once again Adam Schnirel (Mt. Lebanon HS, PA) was impressive with two takeaways and two steals. The entire defense also was nearly perfect clearing the ball, going 21 of 24 on the day.

The game between these two non-conference teams was fairly clean with the Rams having five penalties and the Red Raiders having only four. Texas Tech went one for five on their man ups, while the Rams went two for four and took their season average to 53.8% on extra man.

Every player on the Rams sideline saw action in the game including all three goalies. Later this afternoon Colorado State will take on #13 Texas A&M at 7:00pm in the highlight game of the weekend's schedule. The Aggies will be looking for redemption after falling 9-11 last night against the Red Raiders.

Notes:

- This is the third time that the Rams have had multiple games in a single day during their history. The last time coming both during the 2003 season against Florida/Virginia Tech and UVSC/Utah.
- Today's game marks the first ever contest between Texas Tech and Colorado State.

CSU vs CU
On Saturday, April 16, at 7:00 pm the big game will be played at the neutral site of Shea Stadium, on the south side of Denver, in Highlands Ranch. Last year the game, which is and was coordinated and promoted by the CSU Ram Lacrosse Alumni Association, drew almost 3000 fans. Mark your calendars.
CSU Lacrosse Camp
This summer's High Altitude Lacrosse Camp is scheduled for July 7 - 10, 2005. It's expected to be even better than last years, stay tuned for all the details. Check out the 2004 Camp Pictures.
