Colorado State's Offense Explodes for 24-7 Win Over Texas A&M
Arlington, TX

By Garrett Fitzgerald
February 12, 2005

When the Colorado State Rams arrived at Maverick Stadium on the University of Texas-Arlington campus they were greeted with a downpour that soaked just about everything including the Astroturf playing surface. For the second time in a day Colorado State suited up for the third game of their Texas roadtrip against the preseason #13 Texas A&M Aggies. Even the rain couldn't keep the Rams offense cold for long as the Rams fired 38 shots on goal in the 24-7 win under the lights.

In what was touted as the premier match up of the weekend for the Rams, the preseason #13 Texas A&M Aggies were looking to make up for a upset loss to unranked Texas Tech just 24 hours before. The teams opened up the game trading turnovers, then with the rain tapering off at 12:56 in the opening quarter veteran midfielder Tim Farquhar (Collegiate HS, VA) unleashed a blistering crank shot that found its way past A&M goalie Andrew Dabney.

Even though the Aggies came out playing an inspired brand of lacrosse in the first 20 minutes, a four goal game by freshmen Chris Deeke and solid early goaltending just wouldn't get it done. A&M was able to stay within two until the mid second quarter, however the CSU's offence couldn't be held in check forever. Colorado State went on a 5-1 run starting at 6:41 in the second to give them a six goal lead at halftime. In the third the Rams scored six of the next seven to finish off Texas A&M.

The Rams offense was fueled by several astounding individual performances, leading the way was captain Nick Stanitz-Harper (Eaglecrest HS, CO) with seven goals on eleven shots. Stanitz-Harper had several critical goals early, specifically scoring the first goal of the Rams second quarter run. Farquhar had another outstanding game scoring four goals and two assists, bringing his season total to a balanced seven goals and eleven assists. On the evening Colorado State had nine different goal scorers, freshmen David Ford (Air Academy, CO) had an impressive performance getting the first two goals of his career.

This game would mark the first time during the season that the Rams defense would play without an immediate multiple goal cushion. Junior goaltender Pete Jokisch (Rockhurst Jesuit, KS) rose to the challenge. Jokisch made several key stops while the game was close, particularly an incredible off stick kick save while the game was tied at 1-1.

Two of the Rams starting defensemen had excellent games, sophomore Adam Schnirel (Mt. Lebanon HS, PA) and senior captain Kellin Bershinsky (Poudre HS, CO) each had two takeaways and four groundballs. The CSU man down unit was great as well killing off four of the six A&M extra man opportunities.

Notes:
- The Rams thus far have gone 3-0 on their Texas trip with the last game of the weekend coming against the University of Texas- Austin for their fourth game in just over 48hrs.
- Ryan Trude (Mt. Lebanon HS, PA) a transfer from Wooster, got the his first goal of his Ram career against the Aggies.

CSU vs CU
On Saturday, April 16, at 7:00 pm the big game will be played at the neutral site of Shea Stadium, on the south side of Denver, in Highlands Ranch. Last year the game, which is and was coordinated and promoted by the CSU Ram Lacrosse Alumni Association, drew almost 3000 fans. Mark your calendars.
CSU Lacrosse Camp
This summer's High Altitude Lacrosse Camp is scheduled for July 7 - 10, 2005. It's expected to be even better than last years, stay tuned for all the details. Check out the 2004 Camp Pictures.
