On an absolutely beautiful Friday afternoon in Provo, UT, the #2 Colorado
State Rams did not waste any time in jumping all over the 4th seeded and #19
Utah Utes. The Rams scored five goals in the first six minutes of the game
to race out to a 9-1 first quarter lead. Six different players scored at
least four points as CSU scored seven more goals in the second quarter to
take a 16-1 lead into the halftime break en route to a 24-4 win in the first

Colorado State Rolls Over Lindenwood, Ready for Playoffs

The #2 Colorado State Rams hosted their second and final
out of conference game on an absolutely beautiful Saturday afternoon when
the Lindenwood Lions made the trip from Missouri. While the crowd was
sparse and the weather picturesque, the Rams were not in a hospitable mood

#2 Colorado State Comes Back Against #7 Colorado to Take Tough 8-7 Win

On a wind swept day on the Front Range of the Rockies,
two of the state’s biggest rivals got together for an evening of lacrosse
that will surely be remembered for a long time. In a game that never saw a
lead of more than two goals for either team, the #2 Colorado State Rams came
back from a 4-2 halftime deficit to beat the #7 Colorado Buffaloes 8-7 in
front of over 2000 people at Shea Stadium in south Denver. The game was
billed as the Rocky Mountain Showdown, and the paid attendance was not

Rams Dominate Aggies 21-6

The #2 Colorado State Rams got their third league win of
the season against visiting Utah State on a beautiful night in Fort Collins,
CO. The Rams scored six goals in each the first and second quarters to take
a commanding 12-0 halftime lead en route to a 21-6 win over the Aggies.
Thirteen different Rams scored on the evening as everyone on the roster got

Coming off a disappointing showing against UC-Santa
Barbara last Sunday, the #2 Colorado State Rams knew that in order to gain
victories against the nation’s best, they would have to play much better.
As the team prepped for a visit from their biggest rivals, they learned that
they would be without the services of sophomore goaltender Pete Jokisch
(Rockhurst Jesuit, MO), who’s injured thumb would leave him watching the
game against Brigham Young from the sidelines. But under a steady and
unseasonable snowfall, Colorado State used a team effort to put away the #3

4-1 Fourth Quarter Carries #2 UCSB Past #1 Colorado State

The Colorado State Rams and UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos were
ranked #2 and #1 respectively when they met in the 2003 National
Championship Game. The Rams won that game 6-4 in a defensive struggle that
gave the Rams their third National Championship. In the third day of the
Michigan Invitational, the roles were reversed, with the Rams holding a #1
ranking and taking on the #2 Gauchos. This year, as in last, the #2 team
came away with the victory as Santa Barbara used a 4-1 fourth quarter to

Colorado State’s Depth Too Much for Duluth; Rams Win 22-4

The Colorado State Rams and the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs were scheduled to
play a game in Fort Collins, CO in 2002. But a freak winter snowstorm
cancelled Duluth’s trip to the Rocky Mountains, meaning that Saturday’s
contest in the Michigan Invitational would be the first ever game between
the two teams. CSU was coming off an impressive win over the host Michigan
Wolverines while the Bulldogs lost to #2 UC-Santa-Barbara in opening day
action. #1 Colorado State jumped out to an early lead on #12

Colorado State has been a part of every Michigan Invitational in the each of
its last three versions. In 2001, the Rams beat Texas, Sonoma State, and
Michigan. In 2002, Michigan got the better of Colorado State while the Rams
beat Buffalo and Texas A&M. This year, the Rams started off their 2004
Michigan Invitational with a hard-fought 11-4 win over the host Wolverines.
Nick Stanitz-Harper (Eaglecrest HS, CO) scored four goals, including two
buzzer beaters, to help the Rams emerge from an early 3-0 deficit an win

CSU Opens League Play With 19-4 Victory Over Visiting Utah

In 2003, the Utah Utes were the only USL-MDIA team to
defeat the Colorado State Rams on their way to the National Championship.
The unranked Utes won 5-4 on a dreary day in Orem, UT to pull the upset
shocker of the year. This year’s version of the Rams was not about to have
a let down in their first league game of the season and romped to a 19-4
victory at their home field on campus Saturday afternoon. Fifteen players

CSU Goes 6-0 on Road Trip With Convincing 24-6 Win Over Simon Fraser

The last time that Simon Fraser University and Colorado State
played lacrosse against each other, it was for the 1999 National
Championship. Simon Fraser led a good portion of that game until CSU went
on a fourth quarter run to pull out a 15-11 win that gave them their first
ever National Championship. Six years later, the two teams met again, this
time on the campus of the University of Washington on the second day of the
Husky Invitational. CSU got back on track offensively and dismantled the
#12 Clan 24-6 in a very tightly officiated game. The two teams combined for
25 penalties, 10 of which were unsportsmanlike conduct violations as a hard

Sluggish Rams Defeat Huskies by Seven, 12-5

The Colorado State Rams and the Washington Huskies began play
at the Husky Invitational on Friday night. The tournament is being held in
Washington’s impressive indoor fieldhouse in Seattle, WA safe from any
impending rain. The Huskies came to play from the get go and held a 1-0
lead for the first couple of minutes. The Rams finally got things going a
little bit, but did not blow the game open until the third quarter. CSU led
5-4 in the third until finally going on a 7-1 run to finish the Huskies off

#1 Colorado State Uses 9-1 Second Quarter to Put Away #20 Chico 20-3

The Colorado State Rams and Chico State Wildcats had only met
once before on the lacrosse field, but that was in the fall of 2002 in the
Las Vegas Best of the West Tournament. On a night that featured
intermittent rain throughout the game, the Rams and the Wildcats squared off
in their first ever regular season meeting at Bellvue HS in Bellvue, WA.
Chico came into the first of their three Pacific Northwest games ranked #20
and trying to dethrone a #1 Colorado State team that had won 9 games on the
young season. The Wildcats played a very inspired first quarter and trailed
only 1-0, but wave after wave of CSU offensive firepower slowly buried Chico

In the shadow of Mount Rainier, the Colorado State Rams played
their first ever game in the state of Washington against the Pacific
Lutheran Lutes. The Rams got the entire roster in the game in the first
half and cruised to an easy 24-4 win against a hard-fighting Pacific
Lutheran squad. Sixteen Rams got in the scoring column as Colorado State

Ever since the 1999 National Semifinal game won by the Colorado State 12-11,
Sonoma State and the Colorado State Rams have become two of the MDIA’s
greatest rivals. Saturday afternoon’s game between the Rams and Seawolves
was the eighth such meeting with CSU leading the series 4-3 coming into the
game. The game did not fail to live up to its billing as one of the top
match-ups in the MDIA this season and the Rams’ first game against a top
five opponent. #1 Colorado State used another balanced effort to slowly pace
themselves from a game #4 Sonoma team and won 10-6 on the University of

Colorado State started their six game road swing through the Pacific
Northwest with a road contest against the #10 Oregon Ducks on Friday night.
The weather was absolutely perfect for the 7:00 start time as the Rams were
greeted to Eugene, OR with some very unseasonably nice spring weather.
Colorado State was not as gracious to the host Ducks as the weather was to

On a blustery and fairly cold day, the #1 Colorado State Rams welcomed the
#21 Washington University St. Louis Bears to Fort Collins, CO. The weather
forecast called for temperatures in the mid-fifties, but thanks to a cold
wind off of the foothills both teams had to endure what would have otherwise
been a beautiful spring day. Neither team played particularly well in the
first quarter, but the Rams’ offense finally got clicking in the second and

Last year’s quarterfinal contest between the Colorado State Rams and Texas
A&M Aggies was one of the most exciting in the tournament. The teams were
tied late until the Rams went on a three goal run to win 12-9. This year
would tell a different story. The Rams’ offense got on track in a big way,
jumping out to an 8-2 first quarter lead on the way to an 18-3 halftime

season in emphatic fashion on Thursday afternoon as they dispatched the
University of Northern Colorado 19-1. The Rams scored the first ten goals of
the game before the Bears could get on the scoreboard with just over a

After a win against the Arizona Laxcats on Friday night, the Colorado State
Rams prepped to do battle with an improving squad from host Arizona State on
Saturday. The game started promising for the Sundevils, who trailed 4-3
after one quarter. But a ten goal outburst in the second proved too much
for the young ASU squad and the Rams coasted to their second victory of the

After Arizona’s Jeems Lockridge scored the first goal of the game three
minutes in, Colorado State proceeded to go on a 9-1 run into the fourth
quarter. The Rams were sloppy for much of the game and let the Laxcats back
in it with some questionable on field judgment in the fourth quarter.
Despite being outshot 32-26, the Rams held on for an ugly, but promising,

Rams Travel to Tempe, AZ for Two Games This Weekend
After a successful fall season, the #1 ranked Colorado State men’s lacrosse
team is finally ready to kick off the spring season with a trip to Tempe, AZ
for games with the Arizona Laxcats and Arizona State Sundevils of the WCLL.
The Rams also traveled to Arizona last year to battle the Laxcats in Tucson.

Colorado State Mens Lacrosse Lands Atop 2004 Preseason Poll

The Colorado State University mens lacrosse team will start the 2004 season in the same position they finished 2003, on top of the USL-MDIA poll. The Rams received 29 out of 30 first place votes to finish in front of UC-Santa Barbara for first place in the 2004 preseason rankings as voted by the USL-MDIA voting committee. Another Former Colorado State Star Makes Mammoth Jump to Pros

In 2002, Mike Napolilli became the first player from Colorado State
University to make a professional lacrosse team when the Colorado Mammoth
drafted him in the late rounds of the National Lacrosse League draft. This
year, Kale Nelson, a three-time captain and midfielder/attackman for the
Rams, made his mark at the open tryouts and was one of only three players

2003 Season Recap
Bad weather, injuries, field restrictions, and suspensions. The 2003
Colorado State men’s lacrosse team had to deal with all of the above in
trying to win Coach Flip Naumburg his third USL-MDIA title in five years.
After a promising fall season ended with a fifth consecutive unbeaten
performance in the Best of the West Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada, the
Rams were one of the unquestioned favorites to make it back to St. Louis and
compete for the national championship. But then a rash of bad luck and
injuries led many around the team to call 2003 a “season on the brink” as
